Holiday Shoppers Phoning It In - Call Performance Marketing Delivers
Posted by Gretchen Nemechek on Mon, Dec 06, 2010
The holiday shopping season is off to a strong start. Black Friday weekend kicked off the season with strong sales and consumers spending over $45 billion. Cyber Monday was good to online
retailers with record breaking sales. Internet marketing research company ComScore posted stats for online retail sales on Wednesday reporting that online sales were up 16 percent, mainly due to the average buyer spending 12 percent more than in 2009. November retail sales rose 6 percent over 2009. But the real news is that for the first time ever, online sales passed $1 billion in a single day.
That’s right, $1 billion.
Consumers are spending money this holiday season, but it isn’t just happening online or in the stores. A recent IDC retail survey found that 28% of 2010 holiday shoppers are "mobile warriors" - that is they will heavily leverage their mobile phones while making purchases this season. Consumers on the go are using their mobile devices to comparison shop, strike in-store bargains and complete purchases.
Here at RingRevenue, we are seeing the results of the growing numbers of mobile consumers connecting with advertisers and making purchases on the go. With Cyber Monday’s online numbers breaking records, we saw a correlation in increased call volume and call quality for advertisers using our call performance marketing (pay-per-call) platform. But with calls, advertisers are seeing order values averaging 1.5-2x what is ordered online.
When compared with average call volume on the previous twelve Mondays, we saw a 49 percent increase in call volume on Cyber Monday.

Publishers targeted mobile consumers in a big way resulting in more than 60 percent of calls coming from campaigns that were targeted at mobile users. And regardless of where consumers saw the promotion (online, offline or on their mobile device) 78 percent of callers used their mobile phones to dial. Consumers are picking up the phone to spend money, and advertisers and publishers using call performance marketing through our partners are seeing the benefit with call to conversion rates of more than 20%.
It's not too late to capture more calls and more revenue this holiday season.
