Meet Eva Klein--RingRevenue's New VP of Customer Development
Posted by Arden Bullard on Wed, May 30, 2012
RingRevenue's office has been buzzing with excitement! And while there's always something to be excited about when it comes to call-performance marketing, this time our excitement is centered around one of our newest team members. Welcome Eva Klein, RingRevenue's Vice President of Customer Development. I was lucky enough to catch up with Eva and get the inside scoop on what she's most looking forward to in her new role, where she see's RingRevenue going forward, and most importantly, whether her heart lies with a Mac or PC :) Read on to learn more from my interview with Eva.
Eva, with over 12 years experience in the field of performance marketing, tell us a little about your journey that brought you to RingRevenue?
Wow, 12 years sure looks like a long time when I see it in writing. I started in performance
marketing in 2000 at Be Free, a company that was bought by ValueClick and eventually merged with Commission Junction. After Be Free, I worked a bit for an advertiser, Date.com and then went on to working with publisher sites, FatWallet.com and Enservio Marketplace. Being on all sides of the performance marketing relationship - network, advertiser, and publisher - helps me bring a unique perspective to my role leading customer development at RingRevenue. I have been a strong believer in and advocate of the value performance marketing brings and have been fortunate to be a part of it's evolution over the years.
In your opinion, what is the most crucial factor(s) to consider when it comes to developing both new and existing customer relationships?
There are two factors that come to mind right off the bat - trust and value. Establishing trust on both sides of the relationship leads to innovation, long-term partnerships, and ultimately results. And, of course, if I can't bring value to a relationship I'm not going to be able to create that long-term, trusting partnership with a customer. RingRevenue hits a homerun on both fronts, bringing an incredible solution for tracking phone calls and establishing a solid reputation of integrity in the industry.
In a previous press release, you mentioned that over the years you’ve seen RingRevenue assert themselves as a leader and visionary in the call performance marketing industry. What unique problems in performance marketing do you think RingRevenue solves, and going forward, what impact would you like to see RingRevenue have on the market?
RingRevenue solves a problem that I first encountered at Be Free... how does a publisher get credit for sales that result in a phone call? There are lots of reasons for a sale to convert over the phone, but the most obvious is someone simply wants to talk to a person before they make a purchase. Advertisers know this and encourage interaction with their customer service representatives, but publishers don't want to spend resources promoting something they don't get paid for. RingRevenue solves this by providing tracking on those phone calls allowing advertisers to meet the needs of their customers and providing credit to the publisher that drove that sale. It's a win-win.
Going forward, I see RingRevenue continuing to provide value in performance-based call tracking especially in the mobile space. Many companies are looking for new ways to generate leads and sales through mobile and a call is the most intuitive action. I think there's a real opportunity for advertisers to work with publishers who are exploring mobile advertising and use RingRevenue's technology to encourage that interaction.
What are you most excited about in your role as VP of customer development?
I'm most excited about getting to know RingRevenue's customers and working with them to grow their business. The customer development team is experienced, ambitious, and just plain fun - I'm fortunate to be joining them.
We’ve heard that to some, you’re known as the “grandmother of affiliate marketing”. We've got to admit, you seem too young for such a title! Do you prefer to be known as something else...perhaps, “goddess of affiliate marketing” ?
Ha! Yes, it's true I've been referred to as the "grandmother of affiliate marketing" but I guess that's what I get for spending the majority of my career in a fairly young industry. Goddess of anything sounds pretty darn good to me!
Where are you originally from?
Originally I'm from the D.C. area, but moved to Southern California when I was very young. I've been living outside of Boston for the past 16 years so I can't really claim to be "from" California anymore although it holds a very special place in my heart.
When you’re not busy leading RingRevenue’s customer development and support, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I have a 16 year old son, Jonathan, so I spend a good amount of time at soccer and lacrosse games. We're also right in the middle of his college search (yikes) so have been visiting schools around the country. Outside of that, I enjoy running, hiking, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
What is your favorite food?
I really like trying new restaurants, but if I had to pick one type of food, I'd have to go with sushi. I've come a long way from my youth when my diet consisted mostly of chicken nuggets and popcorn shrimp.
While we know you’ve just stepped into your dream job here at RingRevenue :), when you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
In second grade, I wanted to be a dolphin trainer at Sea World. With RingRevenue right off the Santa Barbara coast, I think I can probably manage a few dolphin sightings so it's not a completely lost ambition.
PC or Mac?
Mac, without question.
Coffee or tea?
Usually tea, I was raised by a Brit so I think it goes with the territory.
Pinkberry or ice cream?
Ice cream (vanilla).
Sneakers or flip-flops?
Flip-flops - I think I have over a dozen pairs.
I-phone or Android?
I have had both, and I'd have to pick Android. I use GPS a lot when I travel and I really need the Google Maps lady to tell me how to get around.
E-book or the old-fashioned-real-deal?
Real deal all the way. There's something about seeing progress that an e-reader just doesn't accomplish.
What is your favorite place to vacation?
Hawaii for relaxation, Europe for culture and history.
Who is your favorite superhero?
Wonder Woman. You have to admit she's a pretty kick-ass chick and she does it while rocking a great outfit!
And finally, when you treat yourself to a guilty pleasure, what is it?
I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I'm known to stop by the magazine stand at airports and pick up People when I travel. Hey, you never know when you'll need to be up to speed on your Kardashian facts.
